The Flying Connemara is part of Blandings Connemara Pony Stud, the oldest existing Connemara Pony Stud in Australia. In the early days Australian breeders had an excellent range of bloodlines and for a number of reasons this range has diminished to the point where it is not always easy or even possible to find a really suitable stallion for some purebred mares. In Australia the problem of distance is a real barrier to sending mares away to stud - for example to send a mare from Victoria to Perth in Western Australia (over 3300 km) is a longer distance than from London to Istanbul, and from Tasmania to the closest mainland port is over 500 km and involves an 11 hour ferry crossing.
